i recenty bought a surfboard?
at a yard sale its a rusty 6'2 c5 with a five fin set-up, and its signed by Rusty Preisendorfer, can any one tell me any thing about the fact that its signed by him or is it just a "run of the mill" board
A good old Rusty board? Rusty's been making boards for about 30 years, so there's probably a lot of them in circulation. It's pretty common for board shapers to sign their work, a long time tradition. Typically you'll find the shapers name and the date of manufacture on the centerline, sometimes rather faint. Signatures in bold elsewhere on the board may be a facsimile signature; a stencil or decal.
Depending on the condition and age of the board it may actually be worth something to a collector. If you have a good surf shop in your area you might take it by and see what they have to say about it. But like all collectibles, "condition is everything". So even if its an early Preisendorfer unless its in pretty good shape it might not be worth much.
